“It has come to the notice of this department (Transport) that some River Cruise Vessels plying in Mandovi River are using high intensity tracer/focus lights on their decks and the same is projected in such a manner that could lead to major distraction of drivers/motorists who are plying their vehicles on the Mandovi Bridges as well as along the D B Marg. Due to this practice of using high intensity tracer lights, possibility of fatal accidents cannot be ruled out thereby endangering the life and property of the motorists and the pedestrians,” Desai said in a letter to Captain of Ports James Braganza.
The officer has requested the Ports Administration to issue necessary directions to all the vessels plying in River Mandovi not to use such tracer/high intensity focus lights and the same should be banned with immediate effect to prevent any untoward accident.
The vessels, registered with the Ports Department have been in huge demand all round the year especially in the tourist season. Hundreds of visitors, particularly Indian tourists queue up outside the ticketing counters. Live music, dance, and various entertainment activities have attracted many visitors to the cruise vessels, some of which are government-run while some are private owned.
