TWO DEAD IN A BLAST AT ORDNANCE FACTORY IN PUNE

Gunwanti Paraste (Pune): Two persons were killed in a blast at the Khadki ordnance factory in Pune on Thursday morning while transferring explosives from one place to other.

The deceased have been identified as Ashok Kashinath Dubal (51) and Marya Rok (48) both are residents of the city’s Range Hills area, sited near the ordnance factory and permanent workers of the factory. The blast took place where initiator fuses are manufactured. The blast took place around 9.20 am when both workers transferring the explosives in a box from one place to another. The accident took place in an F2 section of the factory. These explosives are very sensitive and any small change in temperature and pressure can be triggered.

Police said that both workers sustained very severe burn injuries were admitted to the factory hospital, but the doctor was declared dead on arrival.

The official said It was routine work which was being carried out. Two workers sustained burn injuries as a result of the explosion and died. Military explosives experts are the investigation is on. There is no damage to the buildings and the situation is under control.
