Panaji (Goa): The countdown has begun for the most awaited political announcement of this year. The BJP will announce in next two days whether Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will contest from Panaji or Curchorem.
“We are going to meet in next two days and decide where Parrikar would be contesting from. The choice is between Panaji and Curchorem constituencies,” BJP Goa chief Vinay Tendulkar said.
Both the constituencies are represented by BJP legislators, who have volunteered to vacate their seat for the CM’s entry into Goa Legislative Assembly.
Tendulkar said the final decision is yet to be made because the party workers from both the constituencies want Parrikar to contest from their area.
When contacted, Panaji BJP MLA Siddharth Kuncolienkar said that he has already volunteered to resign as MLA to let Parrikar contest from his traditional bastion. “I have already told the party that I am ready to step down,” he said.
Parrikar has maintained silence on the entire episode, while people close to him stated that he wants to contest from Panaji.
