Panaji (Goa): As the last day for nomination withdrawal ends today, total 55 candidates got elected unopposed while 5297 are in fray for the June 11Panchayat elections.
The elections would be held for 1466 wards spread across 186 village Panchayats.
With this, the official ten-day campaigning begins. The state Election Commission had increased the expenditure limit of candidates to Rs 40,000.
The counting for the polls will be held on June 13.
The election model code of conduct is currently in force.
Total 11,10,884 voters will exercise their voting rights for Panchayat polls. Of these, 5,64,142 are female voters while male voters consist of 5,46,742.
As the five-year term of the existing Sarpanch ended on May 26, the government has appointed incumbent Sarpanch as the administrators of the Panchayat.
