PANAJI (GOA): The nine-month-old political party, Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM), that drew a blank out of five constituencies it contested in the 2017 state Assembly polls, claimed it plunged into the ‘muck of politics’ to cleanse the system.
“We know politics is dirty but we plunged into it to cleanse the system. Our focus will never be diverted,” GSM president Anand Shirodkar said at a press conference called to announce the state level committee on Sunday.
The remark was essentially pointing at the ruling coalition in the state that took a U-turn on various crucial issues and ‘backstabbed’ the people of Goa over the medium of instruction issue. Calling MGP – one of the allies in the coalition government – a double standard party, Shirodkar said GSM managed to reduce the tally of BJP from 21 to 13 seats in 2017 elections. “MGP plays double standards to remain in power. Although we were not successful to wipe it out in the last election, we at least managed to bring down the tally of BJP,” he said.
