Gunwanti Paraste (Pune): The Pune Police has busted an all-men gang from Bihar who conned 12 women in the city and stolen their gold ornaments on the pretext of polishing them. Police have recovered gold ornaments weighing 270 gm and worth about Rs 8 lakh 83 thousand from the gang.
The suspects – Raja Rambaran yadav (age 24), Mohmmed Salaluddin Shaikh (age 28), Rajesh Nago Pandit (age 20), Sachin Kumar Sohan Prasad Gupta (age 33), Munna Kumar Gendalal Shah (age31), Mohmmed Mahrudinn Jakir (age 24) and Mohmmad Rafiq Mohmmad Jakir (age 25) are orgininally hail from Bihar. Bharati VidayaPeeth police station’s Senior Police Inspector Vijay Singh Gaikwad under the guidance of Police Sub Inspector Samadhan Kadam and his team arrested them.
The investigations have revealed that in the last one year, the gang had conned 12 women in different parts of the city by posing as representatives of a company that manufactured polish for metal utensils and ornaments.
The thefts took place in the jurisdictions of the Bharati Vidaypeth, Vishrantwadi, Dighi, Mundwa, Sahakarnagar police.
The gang visited houses between 11 am and 3 pm, when men are mostly away at work, and tell women that they polish Silver and gold jewellery free of cost. They would flee with the jewellery once it is handed over to them for polishing. When women gave them silver articles which they polished neatly. But when gold ornanments were brought, they used to ask the women to go inside and get a pressure cooker.
They would put the gold ornaments in the cooker and add turmeric powder before keeping it for boiling. The victims used to find their gold ornaments missing when they used to open the pressure cooker.
The entire gang was busted when Police Constable Mahesh Mandlik got a tip-off about suspect Vinod Ram Bhagat’s movement, team had been tracing the gang’s trail for long.
Police got the breakthrough when Vinod Bhagat was arrested at Bhelrewadi. During interrogation, Bhagat revealed the names of the 7 other gang members. The suspects have admitted to their involvement in 12 cases. Police recovered gold chains, Police have also seized three motorcycles from them, the suspects are in police custody till June 9.
Pune Zone 2 Dcp Pravin Mundhe, ACP Shivaji Pawar under guideling Bharati Vidyapeth Sr. Police inspector Vijay Singh Gaikwad, Crime Police inspector Waghchore and Detection team incharge officer police sub inspector Samadhan Kadam, police employee Amol Pawar, Kundan Shinde, Arum Mohite, Mahesh Mandlik, Ganesh Chinchkar, Ujjawal Mokashi, Pranav Sankpal, Sarfaraz Deshmukh, Abhijeet Ratanparikh, Arjun Pawar and Netaji Kantagale were involved in the investigations and arrests.
