PANAJI(GOA): Following major embarrassment during the President Election due to the party rebels, the Congress has initiated probe to identify the dissidents who cross voted during the poll.
The CLP leader Chandrakant Kavlekar will be conducting the inquiry to identify the names of four legislators who cross voted during the President Election held on July 17. The names would be then submitted to the party high command for necessary action.
The decision was taken during the congress legislative party meeting held on Friday, which witnessed noisy scene over the fiasco. Except pratapinsgh rane, who admitted of his vote being invalid, no other MLAs came forward to explain the party as why they cross voted.
The meeting was attended by AICC secretary and MP Amit Deshmukh and Goa desk incharge Dr Chellakumar.
” We were not able to identify the names who cross voted. I will be conducting the probe now to identify who are they,” Kavalekar said.
” I will submit the report with name to party high command for necessary action,” he said.
Congress has 16 MLAs in the state assembly, however their candidate Meira Kumar got only 11 votes indicating cross voting by 4 and one invalid vote. NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind got 25 votes.
” Pratapsingh Rane had told us that he did some mistake while voting,” Kavalekar said.
This is second instance in last four month that party, which emerged as single largest in tje recent election, such humiliation. First it was their former MLA Vishwajit Rane who declined to vote during the crucial floor test on March 16 giving upper hand to Manohar Parrikar led coalition government.
Rane resigned as MLA and from congress party to join BJP.
