SIDDANATH BUYAO
When I read the interview of Vijai sardesai on The Neutral View, he compared Goa CM Manohar Parrikar as matured whiskey. Here is what I sincerely feel about his statement.
Now for a single malt, the legal minimum maturation time is three years. But these three years are of course just the beginning. However the top products of the malt reach their maturity only after 15 to 25 years. During the slow maturation over many years, the tangy aromas of the young whisky become mellower but at the same time more complex.
Now Vijai could have very well used experienced or any other term for Parrikars maturity but why comparison with a whiskey.
Vijai himself is regular consumer of rich single malts and specially the old matured ones. If you seat with him for a couple of drinks he would tell you all history about the malts from how they are made, casked and stored to sold in market. He very well explains how to have with what mixture may be on the rocks or little water. Infact Vijai can write thesis on this topic.
But same time Vijai also knows that matured whiskey if not stored properly it can taste bad. The single malt bottles always comes with the cork and its said that the spirit in the bottle should not touch the cork and that’s why they are kept upright. The loose cork also can spoil the whiskey and the taste can go wrong.
So does Vijai mean that though Parrikar is like matured whiskey but after so many years is exposed to all type of politics and have gone bad.
Was this a loose talk like Parrikars Rancid Pickle statement on Advani some years back? Or Vijai meant to say that the whiskey is good matured enough to drink which will taste good, finish it of on the rocks! And perhaps take his place in the cask to get maturity.
