Margao (Goa) Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress has threatened to take on the streets if Goa police stops protecting their own officer who is suspected to be behind the death of lady constable Harshala Parsekar. They have given ten days ultimatum to act.
GPMC President Pratima Coutinho today addressed a press conference in Margao to spell out their action plan of working to give justice to Harshala, who had died while being treated at Goa Medical College and Hospital after suspected poisoning.
Coutinho has demanded that Police Sub Inspector Gautam Shetkar, who was allegedly close to the deceased constable should be arrested and suspended from the service. She said that the deceased had attended a birthday party on the night before she was unwell with the PSI. The PSI after her death was absconding.
The 20-year-old lady constable who had joined services in May last year was posted at Verna police station.
The Congress leaders who met the family of Harshala said that the girl had suspected that her drinks were spiked during the party with poison, as she had not consumed any rattol or poison at home.
Coutinho said that the girl had partied till wee hours and then slept at the police barracks but did not join the duty next day as she was feeling giddy and vomiting. She rushed to her home at Anjuna from where she was taken to a private hospital in Mapusa and then to GMC.
“The family has said that the police were protecting the PSI who is a habitual offender and had similar history in the past. He has got engaged and will be marrying soon, which might have shocked Harshala,” she said.
Coutinho said that the thorough interrogation of the PSI will only reveal the truth as it might be a case of a murder.
