Panaji (Goa): The Captain of Ports Department has instructed the vessels plying across River Mandovi to remain cautious as a school has organized swimming for its students along this stretch. The students will swim across the river from the shores near Reis Magos to the beach front of Campal on March 11.
“The Department of Captain of Ports has notified that Shiksha Niketan School, Torda, Salvador do Mundo, Betim, Bardez has organized swimming across the River Mandovi for their students from the beach in front of Reis Magos to the beach in front of Campal Garden on March 11, 2018 between 12.00 noon to 2.30 pm. Therefore all Owners/masters of the barges, passengers launches, ferry boats, tindels of fishing trawlers and operators of the mechanized and non mechanized crafts, including the tourist boats, cruise boats, etc. plying in River Mandovi are herby cautioned to keep a sharp lookout, go slow and if necessary stop at safe distance so as not to cause any hindrance during the above period and strictly adhere to the on the spot instructions issued by the patrolling boats stationed at the site,” the notification issued by the department states.
The River, infamous for its channel’s congestion has off-shore casinos parked at different locations while also ferry boats ply between Panjim and Betim wharfs. So also, several tourist boats rides are also carried out from Campal and over 400 fishing trawlers are also parked across the river at Verem, near Betim.
